Energy & capability Essay Example for Free
Energy capability Essay Energy has been defined as the capability to produce an effect, it can be stored within a system and can be transferred from one system to another and use it in our everyday life. Generally, countries around the world benefited most their energy consumption from oil. Unfortunately, oil crisis affects every nation since producers and sellers monopolize its price as well as its production but apparent drawbacks are expected due to depletion of oil reserves and environmental pollution. The United States merely consumes one-fifth of the worldââ¬â¢s oil produced and 35% of it utilize for transportation hence oil importation ought to resolve through alternative energy utilization. It is good to hear that researches and new technologies of alternative energy production and usage have been recently prioritized by the government. Thereââ¬â¢s only one way to insulate the US from the corrosive power of oil, and thatââ¬â¢s to develop an alternative energy resource thatââ¬â¢s readily available domestically: hydrogen . Hydrogen is the simplest, most abundant element and it is lighter than air and can be found in the atmosphere in an insoluble substance gas. It is only available on earth in a compound state like water (H2O), coal, petroleum and methane (CH4). It has the highest energy content of any common fuel by weight (about three times more than gasoline), but the lowest energy content by volume (about four times less than gasoline), an energy carrier and derivative of other chemicals that can be produced from a variety of resources (water, fossil fuels, biomass) . Hydrogen can be extracted with no environmental pollution effects through ââ¬Å"steam reforming in which natural gas reacts chemically with steam to produce hydrogen and CO2, electrolysis which splits water into hydrogen and oxygen and the latest discoveries from cultured microbes that emits hydrogen , all require expensive financial support from the government. The fuel cell is an electrochemical devise that can continuously convert chemical energy into electrical energy of power as long as fuel and a reactant are supplied hence chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell create electricity leaving only water as byproduct unlike internal combustion engines that also generate carbon monoxides hazardous to man and environment as well. Hydrogen often described as the perfect fuel for it does not explode, environment-friendly exploitation and exhaustible major reserve of water will never run out of hydrogen however, considerable amount of energy is needed for steady production of hydrogen. The higher temperature fuel cells can reform natural gas for instance, gaseous hydrogen must be compressed and stored in tolerable high pressure tank to hold enough fuel for travel while liquid hydrogen demands more than -4000F for refrigeration both require high temperatures for fuel to recuperate. Adoption of hydrogen technology should settle first the hydrogen fuel-tank problem, mass production of fuel cell vehicles, alter fueling infrastructure to hydrogen, intensify hydrogen production and public campaign to sell the hydrogen economy . Indeed, importation of fuels can be minimized plus pollution free environment consequently upsurge economic growth. BIBLIOGRAPHY Richard Sonntag Claus Borgnakke. Homosexual Indifference :: Free Essays Online
Homosexual Indifference The times seem to be changing in acceptance of homosexual relationships for the better, but many laws as well as society still prohibit gay marriage and adoption. There are two sources which I will use to show different view points on gay marriage and adoption. The first is an article written by Andrew Sullivan, titled ââ¬Å"Let Gays Marry.â⬠This is written as an informal piece to argue that gay people should be allowed to marry one another. The next is also on gay marriage, but in this article, ââ¬Å"Leave Marriage Alone,â⬠author William Bennett writes that it is wrong for gays to marry. These two authors show separate feelings on the issue of gay marriage, while attempting to persuade the readers to agree with them. Each of these articles have valuable arguments, but will they be enough to change peopleââ¬â¢s views, to benefit their beliefs? Beginning with the topic on gay marriage and the controversial battle between authors, Andrew Sullivan and William Bennett, Sullivan is the gay supporter. In Sullivanââ¬â¢s piece, ââ¬Å"Let Gays Marry,â⬠he opens with a statement by the Supreme Court, ââ¬Å"A state cannot deem a class of persons a stranger to its laws.â⬠He feels that this simple sentence has so much meaning, saying that whatever type of person, male or female, black or white, everyone deserves the same legal protection and equal rights. Therefore, gay marriage should not be excluded from the legal system. He tells that some churches practice different beliefs and may oppose gay marriage but religion has nothing to do with the state appeals. Sullivan explains how the definition of marriage has changed in the past and that it can be done again. Sullivan ends his piece by saying that changing the law would not affect straight couples, so why are they against gay marriage? He believes t he change would allow gay couples to experience what straight couples already have. On the other hand, William Bennett, author of ââ¬Å"Leave Marriage Alone,â⬠feels that the right for gays to marry should not come into effect. He begins by asking if gay marriage will benefit the institution. He fears that if this law was passed the true meaning of marriage would be altered and destroyed.

Music vs. Book Essay
Books and music are not a direct comparison normally but when it comes to youngsters and their lives both have a very strong influence. When we are bored, it is the time we listen to music or read a book. These two are the common things we are doing in our leisure time. People should be influenced by music and book. Music can have both a positive as well as negative impact on an individualââ¬â¢s life. The nature and kind of music defines that what type of message they render on the youngster. While books of any type give you either eye opening or well meaning but misguided information on subjects ranging from the simplest subjects to the more sophisticated. Books can even be used by those who are looking for answers in life. Many people report finding the perfect book to answer the burning questions in their minds. Books are more limited: fiction like novels and short stories and non-fiction like memoir, history, biography, self help, and philosophy. Reading books require a larger share of our time. We cannot also do another thing while reading a book. We cannot read a book while washing clothes. Books are more intellectually stimulating and has bigger journey than music. On the contrary, music doesnââ¬â¢t answer questions by itself. Music answers feeling or disturbed emotions looking for an outlet. It exists in an extraordinarily wide array of genres and styles like vocal music (song, choral music, and opera), solo instrumental, chamber, orchestral, band and etc. We will listen to the music we love countless times over the course of our lives. We can multitask while listening to music. We can listen to music while running or washing clothes. Music are more passion and emotional than books. Whether you want to listen to music or read a book, they can both give positive and negative influences, affect all kinds of age groups, and cause different views of the world.

Multi Lateral Peace Operations essays
Multi Lateral Peace Operations essays When President Bill Clinton was inaugurated in 1993, he stressed a new policy concerning a revived United Nations and the actions that would be taken by the United States concerning the New World Order, a term coined by his predecessor George Bush depicting the post-Cold War international arena. Clinton had campaigned on the need for a multilateral organization to share costs and share risks of any peacekeeping venture. The Clinton Administration had made multilateralism a campaign issue and put it in the forefront of their foreign policy agenda. However, with the problems occurred during the initial trial period of this assertive multilateralism, exemplified by US military blunders in Somalia, Clinton and his advisors now found themselves questioning their own policies and preferences in foreign affairs especially in terms of multilateral peace operations. This case study delves into these issues and how Clinton and his administration sought answers to this problematic puzzle. The main operations of the United Nations are humanitarian relief efforts, peacekeeping by invitation and peace enforcement. The latter entails the most danger and conflict situations. These are soldiers trained to fight, not make peace. This is, and always will be, an enigma for those associated with peacekeeping operations. The same forces that are meant to keep the peace for a UN peacekeeping mission have been trained all their lives to make war, not peace. Your warmakers are your peacemakers. This will always cause confusion and disruption in any relief efforts involving peacekeeping operations. The case study attempts to explain the problems encountered during multilateral peace operations. Certain issues must first be addressed. The national interest of the United States is first and foremost. This is the key to making peace or to making war. The issue of whom is in command and who is in control is also an important factor as is the ti...

She was in charge of the dusting, cleaning and taking care of everything since her mother had past so to her this just seemed to be so routine to her, as well as living in Dublin for all these years this is just what she knows and feels comfortable with. Conformist: Her father seemed to be somewhat of a director towards her as well as does her lover Frank. He father doesnââ¬â¢t seem to condone her relationship with Frank. ââ¬Å"The organ player had been ordered to go away and given six pence. She remembered her father strutting back into the sickroom saying Damned Italians! Coming over here! â⬠(Eveline to self, 39) Her father is very domineering and tries to tell her what to do and that he seems to know what is best for her. He even goes as far as taking her paycheck that she gets from the store that she works at and from watching the children as well. She also seems to think that Franks will drown her if she ends up going with him as opposed to staying because she will have the challenges with a new marriage, a new home and possibly children. Oppressor: Paralysis seems to be another factor within the story. ââ¬Å"She sat her white face to him, passive, like a helpless animal. â⬠(Eveline to self, 41) Itââ¬â¢s like she freezes when the opportunity arises to be able to gain from her new experiences. She canââ¬â¢t seem to let go of the memories which again is what seems to also be holding her back. She seems to have an epiphany when she realizes that he is gone and that she is going to have to deal with the regret of not going with Frank just to see how it would have been if she had made the decision to go with him. Loner: There are many senses that are used quite often throughout this reading. ââ¬Å"Windowsâ⬠is a common word repeated throughout. ââ¬Å"She sat at the window watching the evening invade the avenue. â⬠(Eveline to self, 34) This seems to show a reflection on her own situations and relations she has with other people. She hears the organ and it reminds her of her mother and how she lived and she doesnââ¬â¢t want to have a repeat of her life, but her impulses and the reliance she has seems to override the impulses. One other sense that seems to be reoccurring is hearing. She hears footsteps outside the window in front of the new houses and this again shows that there seems to be some sense of a loner town and that there is really nothing keeping her there but again her family. Survivor: ââ¬Å"She gripped with both hands at the iron railing. (Eveline to self, 40) This shows that she has comfort in staying and surviving the life she has in Dublin. She had the chance to leave what she has always known but instead she decides to stay and live up to her word that she told her dying mother. Setting: Dublin, Ireland, 1904, an old room mainly setting in the window, the dock Plot: A young lady named Eveline Hill is setting alone in her home pondering the idea of leaving Dublinââ¬â¢s ordinary life tha t seem to be based on experiences to elope with her love Frank the sailor, but in the end she abandons him at the dock. Theme: ââ¬Å"He rushed beyond the barrier and called to her to follow. He was shouted at to go on but he still called to her. She set her white face to him, passive, like a helpless animal. Her eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell or recognition. â⬠(40,Eveline to self) Within this story, it depicts a young lady named Eveline trying to debate if she wants to stay in Dublin and what she has always known or to take an adventure with her lover to Buenos Ayres to live. This seems to be her only way to escape from everyone/everything and be able to have a chance to be able to start a new life with her lover Frank. This seems to portray some type of relation between life and death. The reason being is that Eveline seems to think that her leaving is in a way of that particular part of her life dying off and with her leaving, this is a way to a new life for her away from everyone in Dublin. She seems to be pondering the idea of giving up her chance at love so that she may stay where she has always been. Eveline has done the same jobs of working for other people, giving her paychecks to her dad and taking care of her brothers for so long that she is not quite sure how to really do anything else. She is so stuck in her routine with the way of doing things for others that she is willing to let go of her chance at true romance. It seems to be that they are trying to make her feel bad in a way of mental abuse so that she will not leave them. It seems to be so that she can have the chance to experience new things, such as moving away to be with her lover Frank and for once have happiness in her life. Evelineââ¬â¢s father as well as her brothers donââ¬â¢t really care or care to see what makes her happy. They are all in it for themselves. Her father and brothers have had things done for them for so long they donââ¬â¢t want to have to actually do something for themselves. Her family knows that if she stays, she will continue on with her daily routine. From this particular story, family seems to be the overall big picture for the theme. Everything seems to come back to the family. She does what she does on her daily routine because of her family; she does everything to help out her family even if it doesnââ¬â¢t make her happy. In the end she lets her lover leave without her because of her family as well.

Sample Recommendation Letter - Undergrad Student
Sample Recommendation Letter - Undergrad Student Undergraduate students are often asked to supply a recommendation letter when applying to a business program. Many students automatically think of academic recommendations when they come across this part of the application, but there are other types of recommendation letters that can make an impact on business school admissions committees. Sometimes the best letters offer insight into the students personality. Sample College Recommendation for an Undergraduate Applicant To Whom It May Concern: Carrie Youstis is an exceptional young lady. Most everyone knows of her intellectual acumen, lofty ambitions, dancing abilities, and kindness; indeed, she is a sort of legend in her small hometown of Southwest Plainsfield, NJ, but few know of the struggle Carrie endured during her middle years of high school. Carrie had a close friend, Kaya, whom she had met at summer camp. She and Kaya had grown very close during the first two years of high school.During the middle of tenth grade, Carrie received news that Kaya was suffering from a rare degenerative disease. It was terminal, Carrie was told but did not cry. She did not even take a moment to worry about how this might affect her. She simply called me, her principal, and asked if she could miss a few days of school, explaining to me the grave situation. I told her that, of course, she may miss school, provided that she make up her work. Then, before she hung up, Carrie asked me to pray on her friends behalf, and said, ââ¬Å" I can go on without Kaya à I have many friends and I will mourn but I have a wonderful life. Kaya is suffering so much, though, and when itââ¬â¢ s all over, that will be it for her. And she is her motherââ¬â¢ s only child. How will she go on?â⬠I was so impressed that Carrie was thinking about everyone affected except herself: Kaya, Kayaââ¬â¢ s mother, but not CarrieYoustis. Such maturity. Carrie knew she had a wonderful life, a belief in God, but she felt for others so profoundly.Carrie visited Kaya often for several months, always bringing her cards and flowers and of course, good cheer. Kaya finally passed away that Spring, and Carrie made sure to visit the mother every week that following summer. You will read of Carries grades and scores and sports abilities, of her awards and accolades; I wanted to relate this episode, as it characterizes what this remarkable young lady is really all about. As she graduates high school, I and all of SouthwestPlainsfield are so sad to se e her go, but realize that she is destined to effect great things far beyond the narrow confines of a small town in New Jersey.Sincerely,Esti IturraldePrincipal, North SouthwestPlainsfield High School
